Help, I Need Somebody!

Is help a word in your vocabulary? Ever need any help? Have you faced moments where help was what you needed? Do we not all face moments when the word help is really, well, helpful? Years ago the Beatles had a hit song called ‘Help’. The opening line was, ‘help, I need somebody’. We all live together on this planet earth, all 7 plus billion of us, and the reality is, we do need each other!

It’s not just in the moment of crises that the cry of help can be heard. Even in the mundane things in life we are helping one another. The fact is, a day doesn’t go by without some form of help. We wouldn’t eat without someone helping us! Someone has to plant, grow, care, and harvest the food we eat and the coffee we drink. It has been so for all the generations on earth.

We read in the book of Psalms one hundred and twenty one that David knew where ultimately his help came from, he said;

‘I will lift my eyes to the hills, from whence comes my help? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth’.

In the Psalm before this one David shares that in his distress he cried out to the Lord. The Lord heard him. In this Psalm he realizes where the source of help comes from in the first place! In so many moments in our day if we could just have a pause, a stoppage, a moment to reflect, clear the mind, close our eyes, grab a peaceful thought, we probably would claim the same.

God does want to help! God cares for our moments, our day, and our very soul. He is the author of life and death, the creator of heaven and earth, the sustainer of the air we breathe. He is the constant provider.

The passage in Psalms goes on to share how God provides for His people. He is in our day, even though we may not recognize, call, seek, ask, or look for Him. Here is the rest of the Psalm passage;

He will not allow your foot to be moved;
He who keeps you will not slumber.
4Behold, He who keeps Israel
Shall neither slumber nor sleep.

5The Lord is your keeper;
The Lord is your shade at your right hand.
6The sun shall not strike you by day,
Nor the moon by night.

7The Lord shall preserve you from all evil;
He shall preserve your soul.
8The Lord shall preserve your going out and your coming in
From this time forth, and even forevermore.

The God of heaven will preserve your going out and your coming in. There is no place where God is not found.

Enjoy His presence today, seek His help!
